ATTRACTIONS 53
Come Play with us at the
C.V. Starr Community Center
Fort Bragg’s new C.V. Starr Community Center will soon become your
family’s favorite thing to do while visiting
the Mendocino Coast. Here you will find
healthy fun for everyone. For those who
are early risers the center is open at 5: 30 in
the morning on weekdays and doesn’t close
until 9:00 at night.
As you enter the facility you will find a
cross section of the community and visitors taking advantage of the Fitness Room
with Star Trac exercise equipment, treadmills, step climber, elliptical machines and
recumbent bikes. In the Dance Studio,
there are people staying healthy with body
sculpt, step classes, yoga, and spin classes.
All are available on a drop-in basis.
The highlight of the facility is the
Sigrid and Harry Spath Aquatic Center,
without a doubt the finest aquatic facility
on the North Coast. The Spath Aquatic
Facility, is a 21,372 sq. ft. natatorium with
2 indoor pools. It is here you can see young
and old share lanes in the lap pool, float
in a lazy river, and play in the 85 degree
leisure pool. All ages and abilities feel
comfortable playing and exercising in this
beach entry pool. When you are finished
having fun in the pool there are changing
rooms, showers and lockers available to get
you ready for your next Mendocino Coast
adventure.
to bring a new center that will serve for
another century. It is fitting that the new
center’s main financial “angel” is a foundation formed by CV Starr. Starr grew up
in Fort Bragg when the vision of the first
Community Center was created. He was a
man of impressive vision, intelligence and
accomplishment, who invested in the communities in which he resided. Despite his
world-wide travels and achievements, Fort
Bragg and its residents occupied a special
place in his heart.
